CSTO considers explosive situation on Armenian-Azerbaijani border

Moscow, Feb 15 (Prensa Latina) The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) sees a high potential for conflict on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, said the head of the group's Joint Chiefs of Staff, Andrei Serdiukov.

According to the officer’s statements on Telegram, some states are attempting to reinforce their positions in the South Caucasus, access the resources of the Caspian Sea, and gain direct access to Central Asia, and to do so, they are using the high potential of a border conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Serdiukov also noted that the West is trying to influence the settlement in the stage following the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan despite the former’s membership in the CSTO.

On January 18th, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the West does not allow the application of the trilateral agreements between Moscow, Baku and Yerevan, while the European Union and the United States want to organize the delimitation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan their way, without Russia.
