Brazil functionaries and government resume negotiations over salaries

Brasilia, Feb 15 (Prensa Latina) Representatives of federal authorities and the Government of Brazil will meet again on February 28th to try to overcome the impasse that prevails over the counterproposal for salary readjustment in 2024.

Metrópoles portal assures that the Permanent National Forum of Typical State Careers, the union centers and the Forum of National Entities of Federal Public Servants reached an agreement and presented a single bill to the administration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The entities proposed two blocks of salary recomposition, taking into account that “the counterproposal considers the replacements and salary losses of the categories.”

To date, the offer made by da Silva’s government for this year does not provide for a salary adjustment for federal functionaries and promises a nine percent renewal, which will be paid in two tranches of 4.5 percent: the first in May 2025, and the second in May 2026.

A nine percent readjustment was granted in 2023, but the full impact only comes into effect in 2024, as payment began in May of last year.

For this, the Government proposed an increase in the amounts of aid, effective from May.

In addition to the readjustment, officials want to equate the benefits of the Executive with those of the Legislative and Judicial, as they complain of a gap with the other two branches, which had an adjustment in aid of 19.03 percent.
