Boat with migrants shipwrecked in Panama, four die

Panama City, Feb 15 (Prensa Latina) At least four irregular migrants died when the boat they were sailing on the Atlantic coast of Panama capsized, an official source confirmed today. According to preliminary reports from the National Border Service (Senafront), the incident occurred in the Guna Yala region near the Carreto area, used as one of the most expensive routes used by traffickers to transport those interested in speedboats to avoid the Darien jungle, on their way to the United States.

The boat carrying some 35 illegal travelers, about 30 feet long and with two outboard motors, capsized due to bad weather, the note adds.

This route is part of the alternatives that are disclosed in social networks as one of the fastest ways to get to Panama: it starts in Necocli, also on the Caribbean side of Colombia, to Puerto Escocles in Guna Yala, where they go in speedboats.

These transfers are illegal activities carried out by members of criminal gangs.

At the moment, 14 people have been rescued, seven are missing, but the search for other travelers and an operation to pursue the traffickers continues.
