Transport and Infrastructure Minister Óscar Mojica said this project, to be carried out with a Chinese company, would begin works in the second half of 2024.
In statements to local television TN8, Mojica highlighted the importance of that airport, which will have a capacity of over three million passengers per year and a 3,600-meter runway for landing large aircraft.
Located some 57 kilometers northwest of Managua, the Punta Huete Airport is designed to be Category 4F, the highest international category for airports.
The project will be carried out in two phases, the first of which will amount to 1.438 million yuan (approximately 199 million dollars).
