The mobilization aims to condemn the permanence of a British enclave and irregularities committed in that place, property of the United Kingdom tycoon Joe Lewis. The move rejects the occupation of the territory and the blocking of access to natural spaces, and will also protest against the repeal of Law 26737, by President Javier Milei, which limited the purchase of land to foreign citizens.
The repeal of the law was strongly criticized as harmful to the integrity of Argentina.
Among the groups that will be represented in the mobilization are the Association of State Workers (ATE), the National Territorial Federation, the Central Workers of Argentina-Autonomous, the Somos Barrios de Pie Movement, the Darío Santillán Popular Front and Corriente Clasista Combativa.
“Lewis’s illegal appropriation of thousands of hectares of land and a lake in a border area seriously damages the sovereignty of our country. This march to defend national interests makes more sense than ever. Let’s not be intimidated by billionaires who are criminals abroad and out here they believe themselves to be great lords,” said the general secretary of ATE, Rodolfo Aguiar.
Aguiar also denounced the Government’s intentions to “benefit transnational economic groups, deepening the process of foreign ownership of land and the plundering of natural resources.”
