The meeting will be chaired by the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, and the president of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, as announced at a press conference by the ambassador of the country to the United Nations, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, who assured that Guyana will promote greater transparency , efficiency, effectiveness and inclusion at work.

“We are committed to adopting our consensus-building approach to executing our mandate in collaboration with all members,” she said, adding that the Guyanese representation seeks to include a gender perspective in meetings to the appropriate extent in accordance with their commitments to peace and women’s security.

This Tuesday’s gathering will promote greater understanding and coordination of responses to address climate change and food security in the planet’s stability, as announced by Robert M. Persaud, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Guyana.

Guyana’s agenda is focused on five priority areas: climate change; food safety; peace building and conflict resolution/prevention; women and global security; and young people and children in peace and security.

Guyana intends to contribute to shaping international policies on peace and security during its period at the head of the Council, Persaud added.

In June 2023, Guyana obtained 191 votes in favor of joining the Security Council, which, in the opinion of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, reflects the country’s solid diplomatic agenda and the trust granted by the international community.
