During the meeting, Marrero said that Africa is an essential part of the history of the Caribbean country and, therefore, “we have never hesitated to extend our solidarity to these sister nations”.
He recalled that Cuba has always accompanied the cause of African states, since their struggle against apartheid: “That projection was instilled in us by the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro, consolidated by Army General Raúl Castro, and has been maintained by President Miguel Díaz-Canel”.
The Prime Minister also held a meeting with the Administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Achim Steiner, who valued Cuba’s work in the field of promoting incentives to boost development and highlighted the coordinated manner in which it works with the UNDP.
In the dialogue, the commitment to continue collaborating with the Caribbean nation was ratified, not only in emergency aid but also in long-term projects in the health and biotechnology sectors, according to the official account of the Government of the island in the social network X.
Marrero also spoke on Tuesday with Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, director general of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, an institution that has supported the Caribbean nation with financing for projects of high social impact.
During the meeting, the continuity of projects related to the hydraulic and energy sectors was ratified.
The rehabilitation of the hydraulic network in the south of Havana and the generation with renewable sources in the Isle of Youth and the University of Las Villas were mentioned.
Political ties between Cuba and the United Arab Emirates are strong, Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi said, and affirmed that the economic institution under his charge will continue to provide support to strengthen bilateral relations.
The Emirati director expressed interest in investing in the fields of tourism and agriculture.
