WHO CEO is concerned by Israeli attacks on Rafah

Dubai, Feb 12 (Prensa Latina) World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed particular concern on Monday over the recent Israeli attacks on Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

Speaking at the World Summit of Governments taking place in this city until February 14, Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the bombardments against that territory are the more worrying problem as Rafah is the leading refuge for a large part of the population displaced by the attacks on Gaza since October 7, 2023.

He affirmed that WHO continues to call for free and safe humanitarian access to the Palestinian people, besides a cease-fire and the release of hostages.

The WHO chief commented that this international health agency has delivered an estimated 447 tons of medical supplies to Gaza; they are: “a drop in the ocean of needs that are growing every day.

He highlighted the critical situation of health services in the conflict region, where only 15 out of 36 hospitals are still partially or minimally functioning, and the staff is making all efforts in impossible circumstances.

More than 100 Palestinians were killed in shelling in Rafah on Monday during an Israeli operation to release two prisoners.
