We have been assured that the upcoming meeting of Envoys and Special Representatives on Afghanistan, convened by the United Nations on February 18-19 in Doha, will aim to encourage the world to engage with the Islamic Emirate, Kabir said during a meeting with officials from Nangarhar province.
The deputy prime minister said the Afghan interim government has fulfilled all the conditions for recognition and called on the countries of the region to recognize the Taliban.
Last week, however, the Working Group on Women, Peace and Security urged the United Nations to make women’s rights in Afghanistan part of the Doha agenda.
We call on the international community to reaffirm at the Qatar meeting that Afghan women’s rights are non-negotiable, the group urged in a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
The organization said that at the meeting, participants should call on the Taliban to end its abuses against women and girls, its ban on access to education and employment, and restrictions on freedom of movement.
