Venezuela to reach presidential electoral consensus

Caracas, Feb 10 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela’s Parliament has focused this week on reaching presidential consensus by debating with all sectors of social and political life to set a draft calendar and date for presidential elections.

The strategy, stemmed from the National Assembly (Parliament) in response to the threats and ultimatum from the Government of the United States, started on Monday, and it is expected to continue at the end of the carnival period on February 13, with a unified criterion that will first go to the legislative body.

The proposed document will then be submitted to the National Electoral Council (CNE), which, according to the Constitution, is the only legal entity to summon, arrange and define the electoral schedule that all Venezuelans must abide by according to the law.

Several meetings held so far agreed on key issues that express the majority’s willingness to achieve peaceful and crystal-clear elections, the main axis of a process that in the last 25 years has always caused resentment.

The onset of the meetings on Monday with over thirty political organizations and at least nine electoral pre-candidates, sets the guidelines to follow, in which principles were defined and agreed upon among all participants.

The non-interference of any foreign force or country in the 2024 presidential elections, respect for national sovereignty, electoral guarantees and equal conditions for all candidates are some of the postulates already established.

Parliament President Jorge Rodriguez explained that at the meeting with the political forces they agreed on designing a working commission to develop, in writing, those three basic issues that must govern the elections from the constitutional, legal and political point of view.

Representatives of the entire political spectrum of the republican life, right wing, center right, social democrats, Christian democrats and the ruling Simon Bolivar Patriotic Pole attended the meeting.
