Venezuelan Religious propose international observers in elections

Caracas, Feb 9 (Prensa Latina) The Venezuelan religious sector proposed today the presence of international observers in this year's presidential elections, as part of the dialogue convened by the National Assembly (parliament) with different actors to propose a calendar.

From the Federal Legislative Palace, Deputy Nicolas Maduro Guerra told the press the details of the meeting held this Friday, which was attended by multiple religious manifestations of the country and which he described as ‘extraordinary and very productive meeting’.

He announced that next week a statement will be brought to Parliament’s plenary, which advocates, fundamentally, for peace in the country, participation, free elections for all, without sanctions or threats and without interference.

Also, he said, for a timely election date to be announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE) and to allow the ‘broad participation of the people as has always been allowed’.

He pointed out that progress has been made in this agreement in which the idea that Venezuela is a country of peace and ‘we are going to guarantee that peace’ will be embodied.

The young legislator ratified that the CNE, as required by the Constitution, is the governing body of the electoral processes in Venezuela and will be the one to set the date, on which it was defined that the elections be called on ‘a timely date’ and respect the decision of the Electoral Power.

He explained that the pronouncement of the religious sector includes the proposal of a wide campaign for the registration of young voters in the electoral registry and the issuance of ID cards, and that the candidates for President of the Republic be allowed the freedom of expression.

Maduro Guerra commented that President Nicolas Maduro is a fundamental political participant as a state figure and yet ‘he is not allowed to contract publicity in some social networks’.

That is why freedom of expression is requested for all to listen to ideas and proposals, he reiterated, and stressed the ‘absolute respect’ for the results of the electoral arbiter represented in the CNE.

He remarked that this was a ‘fabulous meeting’ that allowed to gather the broadest vision of the path of peace the Venezuelan people builds daily.
