The aim is that on October 27, the day of national elections, the Electoral Court can decide on a referendum on the issue.
To do this, the PIT-CNT will have to present some 270,000 signatures to the Court before April, which accounts for 10 percent of the voters’ register.
PIT-CNT president Marcelo Abad said in a press briefing that the Government is waging a campaign against the referendum, which proposes retirement at age 60 with 30 years of contributions.
Eliminating private companies that manage retirement and pension funds is also included.
The Government argues that the trade union proposal would make the social security system unsustainable.
