According to the letter, Afghan women must be at the negotiating table during the upcoming meeting on the situation in the Asian country, to be held in Doha, Qatar.
We are writing to you ahead of the meeting of Envoys and Special Representatives on Afghanistan, convened by the UN on February 18-19 in Doha, which offers an important opportunity for the international community to reaffirm that Afghan women’s rights are non-negotiable, the text states.
The Working Group said that at the meeting, participants should call on the Taliban to end its abuses against women and girls, its ban on access to education and employment, and restrictions on freedom of movement.
However, the Islamic Emirate (Taliban government) stressed that the wishes of international organizations and countries should be based on Islamic laws.
