The presidency of the international organization, chaired by Guyana this month, described as heinous and cowardly the terrorist attacks in Pishin and Qila Saifullah on February 7, which included the deaths of at least 26 Pakistani citizens and more than 45 wounded.
In a statement issued here, the Council stressed the need to hold accountable and bring to justice the perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism.
At the same time, they urged all States to cooperate actively with the Government of Pakistan and other authorities, following their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.
Both events coincided with the preparations for general elections in the country, amid security concerns and UN warnings of increased militant attacks and detentions.
The Council reaffirmed the need to fight this scourge by all means under the UN Charter and international law, including human rights, refugees, and humanitarian law.
