D.R. of Congo denounces Poland-Rwanda military agreement

Kinshasa, Feb 9 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has denounced the signing of a military assistance agreement between Poland and Rwanda, the Congolese Press Agency (ACP, in French) informed on Friday.

The agreement provides for the arming and strengthening of Rwanda’s logistical capabilities, which, according to statements from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the ACP, are intended to cast a shadow over the DRC.

Kinshasa described Poland’s attitude as a double side, as it supported the country at the United Nations General Assembly and condemned Rwanda’s aggression and support for the rebel group “March 23 Movement (M23)”.

In addition to rejecting this position, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the DRC stated that it reserved the right to draw all consequences in the face of the insensitive and deliberate behavior of the Polish Government.

Kigali is accused of supporting the actions of the M23 and other armed groups that maintain insecurity and displacement of people in eastern DRC and even occupy some localities in that region.

The conflict has intensified in the last few months under the concerned gaze of international agencies.

On February 7, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix called on the M23 to cease hostilities immediately.
