Chilean government began the delivery of bonuses to victims of fires (+Photo)

Santiago de Chile, February 9 (Prensa Latina) The Chilean government began the process of delivering economic aid to families who lost their assets as a result of the devastating fires in several communes in the region of Valparaíso.

During the first stage, recovery bonuses for 1.5 million pesos (around 1,770 dollars) will be granted to two thousand households whose homes were destroyed in Villa Alemana, Quilpué and Viña del Mar.

President Gabriel Boric also announced a payment of 750 thousand pesos (about $885) for those whose properties suffered moderate damage.

The amounts are based on the level of damage declared in the forms filled out by the victims.

According to Boric, in the records so far there are between 12,000 and 13,000 affected homes. He also commissioned the Minister of Economy, Nicolás Grau, to evaluate the support needed to rebuild destroyed small businesses and enterprises.

The president reported that the government spokeswoman, Camila Vallejo, will be the permanent liaison with mayors, governors, delegates, general secretaries, and other authorities, to have a global vision of the challenges and to hasten aid; she will remain in Valparaíso and will travel to Santiago only for government meetings on Mondays.
