Present at the meeting were the foreign ministers of Egypt, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Jordan, in addition to a Palestinian representation.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry stressed the importance of ending the war in Gaza and reaching an immediate agreement for a ceasefire, after more than four months of Israel’s aggression.
Participants also expressed their support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Near East and urged it to play a role in supporting humanitarian missions.
Recently, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, said that his country will not normalize relations with Israel without a credible path to the creation of a Palestinian State.
According to the minister, the de-escalation of the conflict in Gaza and an end of civilian deaths is one of Saudi Arabia’s main objectives.
In an interview for the US network CNN in late January, the Saudi foreign minister, referring to the reconstruction of Gaza, gave the same answer and warned that it is not possible to participate in such a task as long as there is no solution that assumes that the situation will not be the same in a year or two.
