Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin talk on Lunar New Year’s Eve

Beijing, Feb 8 (Prensa Latina) The presidents of China, Xi Jinping, and Russia, Vladimir Putin, exchanged congratulations and good wishes for the Lunar New Year during a telephone talk.

According to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both leaders agreed on the excellent state of bilateral ties, which will reach 75 years of existence in 2024.

After advocating to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and write a new chapter in the ties between the two nations, the Asian president expressed readiness to work with Russia to uphold “the spirit of mutual assistance and friendship for generations to come”.

Xi Jinping stressed that the two sides should work closely and strategically to safeguard their respective national interests of sovereignty, security, and development, and oppose interference in internal affairs by external forces.

He urged supporting Kazakhstan in organizing this year’s Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, enhancing solidarity and safeguarding the common interests of countries in the region.

“China actively supports Russia’s chairmanship of the Brics in 2024 and is willing to work with Russia to strengthen international multilateral cooperation, practice genuine multilateralism, advocate for an equally and orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization,” Xi added.

Putin called for continued exchanges with his Chinese counterpart and for jointly organizing the so-called Year of Chinese in Russia and also advocated for strengthening cooperation in various fields.

“Russia firmly adheres to the one-China principle, opposes any dangerous acts to provoke China on the Taiwan issue, and believes that any attempts to hinder the peaceful reunification of China will not succeed,” he stressed.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the two heads of State also had an in-depth exchange of views on relevant issues of the international and regional scene.
