Soldiers accused in Ayotzinapa students’ case return to prison

Mexico, Feb 8 (Prensa Latina) Eight soldiers from the Armed Forces accused of the forced disappearance and murders of 43 Ayotzinapa teaching students, who had been released, returned to prison on charges of organized crime.

Raquel Duarte Cedillo, judge of the second district court for federal criminal proceedings in Toluca, state of Mexico, issued the formal imprisonment as they were allegedly linked with the Guerreros Unidos criminal organization, which perpetrated the crime.

The military officers were accused of being implicated in the disappearance of those young people in Iguala in September 2014.

The soldiers’ defense attorneys noted that the judge considered that the Attorney General’s Office had presented evidence that all eight soldiers were linked to members of organized crime.

The Attorney General’s Office got new arrest warrants for the eight defendants: Gustavo Rodríguez de la Cruz, Omar Torres Marquillo, Juan Andrés Flores Lagunes, Ramiro Manzanares Sanabria, Roberto de los Santos Eduviges, Eloy Estrada Díaz, Uri Yashiel Reyes Lazos, and Juan Sotelo Díaz, who are held in Military Camp 1-A in Mexico City.
