Political consensus on energy transition in Uruguay

Montevideo, Feb 8 (Prensa Latina) The energy transition in Uruguay is a subject of consensus among the political forces that dispute the electoral campaign for the October elections, the head of the Ministry of Energy Fitzgerald Cantero granted on Thursday.

Cantero further attended a press conference convened by the Automobile Club of Uruguay (ACU), in connection with the participation of that association in the International Automobile Federation’s world awards, which recently took place in Panama.

The executive stated that the proposals of various political forces’ candidates coincide in continuing the goals of the current energy policies, and praised the joint participation of the Government, civil associations, private entities and universities for such definitions, with periodic contacts on the issue.

Cantero argued the country’s progress in that area, particularly the Electric Mobility Group, an institutional space to boost the use of different vehicles that stop consuming fossil fuels.

The authority stressed that this is part of the second stage of the energy transition that Uruguay is undergoing, whose main sources today are hydroelectric, wind, solar and biomass plants.

The leader thanked the support of civil organizations such as the ACU, especially in the growing use of electric vehicles in the country, for which his office, part of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining, is making investments.
