Russian senators call to cease weapon supplies to Ukraine

Moscow, Feb 7 (Prensa Latina) The Federation Council (Upper House of the Russian Parliament) passed on Wednesday a declaration in a plenary session stating that those Western countries that have been supplying weapons to Ukraine are directly responsible for the death of civilians.

The senators called on the parliaments of the United States, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Germany, France, and other members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to stop supplying weapons, ammunition, and military equipment to Kiev immediately.

The statement also calls on them to acknowledge the direct responsibility of their countries for the civilian deaths caused by the Ukrainian armed forces’ attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure facilities, and to take immediate action.

Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev, in turn, stressed that this declaration will be sent directly to the parliaments of all forenamed countries and the organizations where these legislative bodies are represented.

The Russian senators state that if the Western countries continue supplying weapons to Ukraine, they will become “direct accomplices in the Kiev Government’s crimes, making them responsible for the deaths” of civilians, including women and children, and of committing “serious violations of international law.”

The lawmakers pointed out, in the document, that Ukraine’s December 30, 2023, attack on Belgorod and January 21, 2024, strike on Donetsk were particularly cynical and cruel.

Those attacks killed more than 50 people and left more than 130 wounded.
