Nayib Bukele: A second term with great challenges

San Salvador, Feb 7 (Prensa Latina) Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele will face great challenges during his second term in office, such as security, employment and economic growth.

“Wait and see what we will manage to do in the next five years,” Bukele said at an early celebration of his victory at the polls on February 4, something that is a promise or a foretaste of the challenges the president will pose.

The notable improvement in security was undoubtedly the main achievement that Salvadorans recognized on Sunday when they decided to renew the mandate of their president, and give him a landslide victory, according to an editorial in El Mundo daily in an approach to the subject.

However, the pending issues, especially improving the economy and facing hunger and poverty are serious challenges that require concrete answers.

The newspaper’s editorial notes that the first challenge is precisely to maintain the security achieved, consolidate the progress made and generate a legal framework so that, once the exception regime is over, the gangs or any other organized crime group does not become active again and generate instability and suffering for Salvadorans.

“Then comes the economic challenge ahead. Salvadoran society has been expressing, in all polls, that the economy and employment are their main concerns. The economic crisis is a cycle that began since the civil war of the 1980s and worsened with the indebtedness to rebuild the country,” the daily listed.
