In a joint communiqué, they added border issues and fentanyl trafficking in order to continue to be strategic partners.
It indicates that on Tuesday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador met with White House National Security Advisor Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall at the National Palace, and reaffirmed the Mexican Government’s commitment to working jointly with the United States.
Its objective is to achieve an orderly and safe management of migration, with a regional perspective, addressing the root causes, always with full respect for the sovereignty of both countries and the policy of good neighborliness, friendship and cooperation.
The text added that Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alicia Bárcena Ibarra had led the Mexican delegation that met with the US delegation, headed by Sherwood-Randall, with the objective of continuing the dialogue held between the two presidents.
In this regard, both delegations reviewed the progress of the joint binational strategy on migration issues and highlighted the cordial relationship that exists between Mexico and the United States.
They emphasized the importance of continuing bilateral efforts, addressing the structural causes of human mobility in order to achieve orderly, safe and regular migration from a regional perspective.
They also discussed the joint actions to address the synthetic opioid epidemic and counteract arms trafficking, phenomena that have negative impacts on North America.
The statement recalled that both delegations will meet again on Wednesday, within the framework of the 3rd Meeting of the Trilateral Fentanyl Committee, together with a delegation from Canada.
