Wildfires are already considered the largest catastrophe ever occurred in Chile in the last 14 years and, according to authorities, will have a remarkable impact on domestic economy.
Official figures mention over a hundred deaths, as well as numerous businesses, homes and buildings burned down.
Chile’s Finance Minister Mario Marcel announced a plan of measures to defuse the damage, including the initial delivery to the affected families of a 1.5 million pesos (about USD$1,700) voucher for the purchase of household goods and equipment lost in the fire.
