In a letter addressed to the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of Chile, the president of Parlatino, Cuban lawmaker Rolando González Patricio, conveyed the most heartfelt expressions of sorrow in the face of this tragedy on behalf of the regional legislature.
“The brotherly people of Chile and its government can count on our solidarity in these difficult moments. We trust that very soon it will be possible for them to start recovering from the scourges of such a magnitude,” the text reads.
According to official figures released in Santiago de Chile, the fires in the so-called Fifth Region have killed 123 people so far, although the figure could rise because there are still people missing.
Currently, according to the Communist Party deputy for that region, Luis Cuello, the fires are being contained and extinguished and, once this is resolved, work must be done to remove the bodies, which still remain in many parts, and then begin the reconstruction work.
