Argentine workers demand to preserve guarantee fund

Buenos Aires, Feb 6 (Prensa Latina) The State Workers' Association (ATE) called on Argentine legislators on Tuesday to stop the Government's attempts to eliminate the Sustainability Guarantee Fund (FGS).

Founded in 2007 by former President Néstor Kirchner (1950-2010), the FGS aims to protect the pension and economic system and ensure its strength and reliability.

The members of the Lower House of Congress started this Tuesday the debate chapter by chapter of the bill “Law of Bases and Starting Points of Departure for the Freedom of Argentines”, which was generally approved on Friday.

The package provides privatizing public companies, granting legislative powers to the Executive, and declaring an emergency.

It also includes transferring from the FGS of the National Social Security Administration (ANSES) to the orbit of the State Treasury and eliminating the Council of that entity of the Argentine Integrated Pension System.
