Argentine deputies to analyze package of laws

arg-camara-diputados-1
Buenos Aires, Feb 6 (Prensa Latina) The Chamber of Deputies will begin the debate by chapters of the bill known as the Law of Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines, approved on Friday in general.

On February 2nd, 144 legislators voted in favor and 109 voted against the Omnibus Law after three days of debate amid popular demonstrations and after the elimination of around 300 articles.

The package includes highly questioned aspects such as the privatization of public companies, the attribution of legislative functions to the Executive and the establishment of an emergency period.

Last week, members of social and union organizations expressed their disagreement with the initiative through rallies around Congress, in the capital, and in other cities of the country.

The Federal Police, the motorized police, the Gendarmerie and the Prefecture attacked the protesters using batons, tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets.

More than 20 people were arrested and dozens were injured, including 30 journalists.

Federal judge Sebastián Casanello asked the Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich to present a report within 72 hours detailing the legal foundations of the anti-protest protocol applied.

According to the Télam news agency, the magistrate declared himself competent in a case that analyzes the unconstitutionality of this plan of measures and asked to explain, whether the Ministry of Justice, the Secretariat of Human Rights, civil society organizations or international organizations were consulted.
