Another criminal gang dismantled in Costa Rica

San Jose, Feb 6 (Prensa Latina) The Costa Rican Police Investigation Agency (OIJ) today conducted raids in 23 locations in the Caribbean province of Limón, in the search for hitmen dedicated to drug trafficking and linked to several murders in 2023.

The agency conducted the searches in the sectors of Atlantida, Barrio Quinto, Limoncito, Envaco, Corales 1, Pacuare and Cienaguita, in which they seek to arrest 18 people and thus dismantle a criminal organization, related to several murders, attempted murders and violation of the Law of Psychotropic Substances and Money Laundering.

A Teletica.com report indicates that the gang, allegedly led by a 36 year old man named Peña, was dedicated to the collection of money for debts, homicides, storage, distribution, preparation and sale of drugs.

The judicial agents were able to confirm that 10 of the suspects are apparently related to several cases in which different subjects in the province of Limón have died as a result of hired killings.

Another seven are linked to the crime of drug dealing and one of the suspects is linked to an attempted homicide.

The OIJ has recently carried out several raids to dismantle gangs operating in the country dedicated to organized crime and drug trafficking, linked to the wave of homicides, which in 2023 counted 907 murders.
