Talks chaired by Vietnamese Vice Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu and China’s Assistant Foreign Minister Nong Rong took place this weekend in Ho Chi Minh City, to concretize and implementing the high-level common understanding between the two countries.
At the meeting, both parties expressed their satisfaction with the positive development and historic achievements of bilateral relations achieved in recent times, and called for increasing exchanges, contacts and the organization of high-level visits and successfully celebrating the 16th meeting of the Vietnam-China Cooperation Steering Committee. They also emphasized the needs to expand cooperation in terms of economy, trade and traffic connection, as well as to promote collaboration in defense, security and diplomacy.
In accordance with the documents and treaties signed between the two parties, the functionaries urged for the proper handling of cases pending or arising around the land border for its effective management,
Minh Vu suggested that China increase the import of Vietnamese agroforestry and aquatic products and transport connection between the two countries, particularly via land and railway routes. He also emphasized on the importance of negotiating the signing of a framework agreement on rice trade, create a working group to promote tourism collaboration, and boost coordination in an effective and sustainable use of the water sources of the Mekong River.
Nong Rong, considered it necessary for both sides to speed-up the construction of smart border gate models to improve the efficiency of customs clearance and limit the congestion of goods on those border lines. He also urged to intensify cooperation in ecological development, the digital economy and new energies, such as wind and solar, and to actively coordinate participation in regional and international multilateral forums.
As reported by the VNA news agency, the two sides exchanged frank and sincere views on maritime issues, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and stability at sea in the current complex international and regional context.
