UN Security Council convened over US attacks in the Middle East

United Nations, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) The UN Security Council will retake the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East in a session convened by Russia after the attacks launched by the United States against Iraq and Syria.

According to the disclosed agenda, the meeting will take place at 4:00 p.m. local time, under the theme “Threats to international peace and security amid rising escalation in the region.”

Russia’s deputy envoy to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyanskiy, confirmed on Saturday the Russian Federation’s request to hold the meeting following the US aggression against Iraq and Syria, in response to an operation against a US military base in Jordan, early this week.

Washington launched massive air strikes against 85 targets linked by Joe Biden’s administration to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and associated forces.

The US Armed Forces confirmed that among the targets hit were command posts, intelligence centers, as well as missile and drone storage facilities.

Meanwhile, the government of Iraq reported at least 16 deaths and 25 wounded after the US bombings, and rejected Washington’s statement about being notified of the attacks.

The Syrian Ministry of Defense, without giving an exact number, reported several deaths and injuries after the air strikes.
