Russia and UAE discuss providing humanitarian aid to Gaza

Moscow, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) During a telephone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahayan, discussed measures to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza.

“In the context of the ongoing military confrontation in the zone of the Israel-Palestine conflict, the two leaders considered measures to provide additional humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip,” a statement from the Russian presidential office said.

According to the Kremlin, the parties also confirmed their position in favor of an early ceasefire and the resumption of the political process to reach a just and long-term solution to the Palestinian problem on a known international legal basis.

On October 7, Israel declared war on Hamas and launched massive attacks on civilian and other facilities in Gaza, while imposing a total blockade on the Palestinian enclave, cutting off water, food, medicine, electricity and fuel supplies.

On October 27, Israel launched a large-scale ground incursion into the Gaza Strip.

From November 24 to December 1, during a humanitarian truce brokered jointly by Qatar, Egypt and the United States, 80 Israeli hostages held by Hamas, mostly women and children, were exchanged for 240 Palestinian prisoners without blood crimes.

In addition, Palestinian militias released nearly 30 captives, mostly Thais living in Israel. Some 136 hostages are still being held captive in Gaza.
