Electoral Tribunal of El Salvador yet to confirm Bukele’s victory

San Salvador, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) The Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of El Salvador is yet to officially confirm President Nayib Bukele's victory at the polls despite the fact that the president already celebrated his success.

Bukele won by a landslide, according to preliminary reports released by the Vote Collection Boards, whose counts showed a notable difference between Bukele and Nuevas Ideas in regards to their opponents.

The president claimed victory last night after the Interdisciplinary Consulting in Development S.A. (CID-Gallup) indicated that the president had 87 percent of the votes, according to surveys at the polls.

The vote for the Legislative Assembly was also favorable, having won 54 seats out of a total of 60, one for the Christian Democratic Party and another five for the rest of the groups, according to CID Gallup.

Other competitors followed Bukele by far, such as Manuel Flores of the FMLN (7%), Joel Suárez (Arena) (4%), Luis Parada (Nuestro Tiempo, 1.6%), and others.

A TSE report published at 9:51 p.m. local time, even without having calculated the total of the minutes, reflected that Nuevas Ideas was in front with 1,000,522 votes, a great difference over the Farabundo Martí Front, which was in second place with 93,846 votes, and the Nationalist Republican Alliance (Arena), with 81,102 votes.

For the moment, the three parties retain their legal status and will not disappear from the political life of the country, as they obtained more than 50 thousand votes.

There are still more than six thousand minutes to be counted, which could favor parties such as Nuestro Tiempo, threatened with disappearing along with other groups.

Local media reports indicated that the counting of the minutes is expected to be close to its end as of February 5, in the early morning hours, however, last night, Bukele and Nuevas Ideas have already celebrated their victory.
