Nicolas Hernandez, director of the Nicolas Guillen Foundation, claimed the event -scheduled for May- will be attended by writer and Venezuelan Vice Minister of Culture Raul Cazal who will give a glance at culture and raciality in that South American nation.
At a press conference on Friday, Hernandez praised the attendance by Spanish poet, literary critic and essayist Luis Garcia Montero, director of the Cervantes Institute, whom he referred to as one of the most important poets of that country, as well as thanked him for his future visit to Cuba in the complex times the island is going through.
The event will have as fundamental thematic axes the poems and prose of the Cuban National Poet, texts which tribute is paid to in this edition, in addition, will reflect on inequalities and challenges of society in recent years from the vision of Guillen’s ideology. Panels, debates, book launchings and exhibitions are part of a wide-ranging artistic program to be held on the occasion, along with an academic program to be held at the Ruben Martinez Villena Hall of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.
The academic director of the Foundation, Leonardo Sarría, pointed out the need to analyze Gullen’s different works, especially those less known, such as his love poems.
