3,054 observers present in El Salvador elections

San Salvador, Feb 3 (Prensa Latina) 3,054 national and international observers were accredited for the presidential elections and to elect members of the Legislative Assembly in El Salvador.

The most striking thing in the group of observers is that those from abroad barely total 658, a figure lower than the 1,074 who came during the 2019 fair in which Nayib Bukele was elected.

A report of the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) specified that the accredited international observation is 22% of the total and the other percent corresponds to the 2,396 nationals that will be deployed in the country until the end of the elections.

It is noteworthy that the largest international delegations belong to the Organization of American States (OAS), with 95 accredited participants, and to the Global Alliance of Young Politicians, which has 90 foreign observers and 10 national observers.

Regarding OAS, frequently, its observation activities, as in the Bolivian elections in 2019, were examples of a ‘deeply problematic observation mission; whose dishonest, biased, and unprofessional conduct caused serious damage to democracy,’ the U.S. Center for Economic and Policy Research reported.

The TSE met on Friday with the different delegations of international observers already in El Salvador with the objective of providing them with information on the Salvadoran elections.
