South Africa ready for voter registration weekend

Pretoria, Feb 1 (Prensa Latina) The Electoral Commission of South Africa is ready for the second national weekend of voter registration to verify voters' data before the national elections.

In statements to local media, Commission Director Sy Mamabolo explained that the entity is ready to undertake the registration of citizens who wish to vote in 23,303 polling stations throughout the country.

“The Electoral Commission will hold the second weekend of voter registration on February 3 and 4, 2024, in preparation for the general elections of the National Assembly and provincial legislatures,” Mamabolo explained.

Potential voters, he added, can visit the registration stations to inspect or update their information, or do so online.

In order to carry out the process, the official added, more than 69,718 people have been hired and trained for the weekend.

As part of that process, he said, the names of the trained personnel have also been shared with the municipal political liaison committees to facilitate objections against those deemed unsuitable.

Of the designated personnel, he added, 53,028 are women and 16,690 are men.

The Commission’s collective goal, he summarized, is to ensure that all eligible voters in South Africa are registered to vote in the 2024 national and provincial elections.
