Damascus expresses its concern over the continued hostile actions towards the Palestinian people, in particular, the attempts to paralyze the work of UNRWA supported by an Israeli disinformation campaign, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in an official statement.
It considered such a move as part of Tel Aviv’s plan to eliminate this body and end the services it provides to the Palestinian people.
According to the statement, this decision will have a catastrophic impact on the Palestinian people and will exacerbate their suffering, in addition to constituting a flagrant aggression against humanitarian values, which is tantamount to collective punishment.
The Foreign Ministry called on countries to reconsider their decision and resume their funding as the agency provides humanitarian assistance to millions of Palestinians.
UNRWA is the United Nations agency for the Palestinian refugee population in the Middle East. A community of 5.9 million people.
For nearly seven decades, the Agency has been responsible for ensuring access to education, health, humanitarian aid and social services for Palestine refugees in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and the occupied Palestinian territory (Gaza and the West Bank) until a just and definitive solution to their situation is reached.
