Members of social organizations and human rights defenders mobilized near the legislative headquarters, where deputies debate the project called the Law of Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines.
Left Front legislator Gabriel Solano told the press that citizens were attacked with tear gas and threatened by officers on motorcycles.
“The police are here with an immense repressive operation. We demand that he leaves there is no justification for this,” he stated.
For its part, the General Confederation of Labor pointed out that “if the National Congress must be militarized for parliamentary discussion, it is sensible to be suspicious of the supposed “benefits” for the people of the Omnibus Law.”
The package of regulations includes highly questioned aspects such as the attribution of legislative functions to the Executive and the establishment of the economic, pension, security, defense, tariff, energy, health, administrative and social emergency. In addition, it eliminates primary, open, simultaneous and mandatory elections; and allows public administration contracts to be renegotiated or terminated.
On the other hand, it establishes that “those who direct, organize or coordinate a meeting or demonstration that prevents or hinders circulation of public or private transportation or causes injuries to people or damage property, will be punished with imprisonment of two to five years, whether they are present or not.”
