Sentenced to more than 10 years in prison in June last year for money laundering as a perpetrator in the case known as New Business, the now cadidate to the presidential seat for the Realizando Metas (RM) party continues to encounter denials of appeals by the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ), described by his followers as political harassment.
On Tuesday, the CSJ informed that it did not admit the warning of unconstitutionality filed by lawyer Carlos Carrillo on behalf of the former governor.
The Court also rejected the action for constitutional guarantees filed by Defense Attorney Jessica Canto, another representative of the multimillionaire ex president.
Martinelli is waiting for the resolution of a cassation appeal filed within the criminal proceeding, which if the CSJ rules so, would invalidate him from the electoral race, a decision that is not forthcoming.
