Measles is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus that spreads through the air when someone infected breathes, coughs or sneezes, and can result in serious complications such as blindness, pneumonia or encephalitis, and even death.
In an epidemiological warning published on its website, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) stressed that measless vaccination is the most effective measure to prevent infection and avoid its spread.
