The Secretariat of Risk Management (SGR) registered on Wednesday 14 rivers overflowing their banks in the provinces of Esmeraldas, Manabí and Los Ríos.
Similarly, local media reported that some 806 houses in Esmeraldas have been impacted by rainfall that has also caused landslides in different localities.
Experts from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi) warned that these weather conditions are moderate effects of the rainy season and the El Niño phenomenon, which since Tuesday increased the intensity of rainfalls with thunderstorms.
Since October 1, 2023, the SGR has registered almost 700 dangerous events derived from rains throughout the country such as landslides, floods, structural collapses, windstorms and sinkholes.
