The head of State was reacting to reports from the National Civil Police (PNC), according to which El Salvador had reached January 29 with zero homicides, which brings it closer to the record of 24 days without deaths attributable to gang actions in April 2023.
Until Sunday, 22 days were registered, and in view of the numbers reported today at dawn, the president assured that ‘if the trend continues, the homicide rate would be 1.6 per 100,000 inhabitants,’ lower than 2.4 in 2023.
These results are attributable to the Territorial Control Plan (PCT), launched on June 20, 2019, and to the controversial and questioned exception regime that was approved by the Legislative Assembly for the twenty-second time and must be renewed before February 10.
Official figures indicate that the exception regime allowed capturing more than 75,163 terrorists between March 2022 and January 2023, and the occupation of gang logistics, including 7,000 vehicles, nearly 3,600 firearms, cell phones and homes, among others.
