In a statement, Costa Rica´s Health Ministry detailed such a vaccine, which protects from Omicron variant based on the XBB.1.5, supports the proposed immunization schedule for the entire population and will apply to both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.

The Ministry recalled that the virus continues to spread, so it is critical to maintain recommended hygiene measures and be aware of what is happening regarding Covid-19 through official information channels.

Just a few days ago, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) started off by distributing 22,004 doses of a bivalent vaccine against Covid-19 to children and those aging over 12 years.

The CCSS Logistics Manager Esteban Vega de la O explained that 1,000 doses are intended for people aging five to eleven years and 1,000 other doses for people aging six months to four years.

Vega noted that after the technical review by the Medicines Standards and Quality Laboratory, the vaccine was made available to health centers as of January 22, so during this week it will be distributed to 103 healthcare centers.
