The European Copernicus service said that the European Observatory for Climate Change (EUCOPERNICUS) has reported that there has been little rainfalls in recent years, especially in the Mediterranean basin.
This was assured by the European Drought Observatory for Resilience and Adaptation (EDORA) in a message on the social network X, in which it showed on a map different points with red color in the south of the Spanish Mediterranean area, the Balearic Islands, also in Spain, Sicily and Sardinia (Italy) and especially in northern Africa.
According to the Observatory, droughts have a substantial impact on nearly all regions and in many critical sectors of the European Union (EU), a situation that will be exacerbated by climate change that will increase these drought risks. This situation should lead several EU Member States to implement or further develop drought management and drought adaptation plans and measures, according to the Observatory.
