The national offices of the environmental organizations Legambiente, Greepeace, WWF and Kyoto Club criticize in the document this project, presented last Monday by the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, during the Italy-Africa summit that took place in this capital, particularly with regard to the energy issue.
In the joint statement published on Tuesday, these groups point out that although Meloni did not mention it explicitly, “in reality it is very clear that renewable energies are not the protagonists of the Mattei Plan, the protagonist continues to be gas, together with the plans of the energy company ENI on biofuels”.
The document points out that “the only objective seems to be to transform Italy into a gas energy center through a cooperation that goes through Africa and polluting sources, increasing energy dependence” which they qualify as “a short-sighted vision of the country’s energy future and of the concept of ecological transition”. mh/jav/mem/ort
