Crimes against humanity denounced in Sudan

Khartoum, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) New evidence from investigations conducted in Sudan reportedly shows that sufficient proof of crimes and human rights violations continue in the Darfur region.

According to press sources, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has denounced to the United Nations the atrocities committed in the city of El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, where violence has mainly affected people in refugee camps.

It also notes that in Chad, where chiefly Sudanese displaced by the war are concentrated, eyewitnesses have confirmed violence and crimes.

A staggering 10.7 million people are now displaced by conflicts in Sudan, according to data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Of that figure, nine million are displaced inside the country, and more than 1.5 million have to flee to neighboring nations to escape violence.

Clashes in Sudan erupted on April 15, 2023, due to disagreement amid an integration process between the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, vice-president of the Sovereign Transitional Council (STC) within the Armed Forces, and General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of the Army and president of the STC.

Both generals are battling for control in Sudan after the ouster of President Omar al-Bashir in 2019.
