Belize and Cuba to analyze issues of bilateral interest

Belmopan, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) Belize and Cuba on Tuesday analyzed issues of bilateral interest during a meeting where Belmopan also reaffirmed its strong opposition to the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, diplomatic sources informed.

According to an official statement, Belize´s Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister Francis Fonseca addressed such issues as he welcomed Cuban Ambassador to Belize María Caridad Balaguer.

Fonseca ratified Belize’s stance in favor of lifting the hostile and unjust US blockade and against the inclusion of Cuba in the States Sponsor of Terrorism (SSOT) list, which hinder Cuban people´s development and welfare.

The statement also recalled that both nations established diplomatic relations in 1995 in a mutual respect and support, and also enjoy cooperation in different sectors including health, sports and environment.

Likewise, Fonseca talked about various agreements reached in the context of the official visit paid by Belize Prime Minister John Briceño to Cuba in 2022 and that of President Miguel Díaz-Canel to Belize in 2023.
