Weapons, ammunition, swimming pool and disco in Ecuador’s jails

Quito, Jan 29 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador’s Armed Forces and the National Police continued their interventions in domestic prisons, where in addition to weapons, ammunition and other illegal objects, they found a swimming pool and a disco.

The operation took place on Sunday at the Chimborazo Prison, where officers seek to keep control.

Over the weekend, they were in Sucumbios province’s jail as well, where the military found 60 sharp weapons, 12 rounds of ammunition, 64 cell phones, 13 computers, three radio communication bases, four satellite antennas and a video game console.

In addition, the Army reported that they disabled all modems and WiFi routers to cut out the Internet connection.

In the penitentiary center of Cotopaxi, a province in the Ecuadorian highlands, the military found a swimming pool, whose wall had a wolf painted on it, a disco and rooms with privileges.

In a video posted on the Ecuadorian Army’s X account, the soldiers said that they had found liquor, food, double beds, furniture and brand-name clothes, as well as a disco with LED lights, luxury alcoholic drinks, drugs and even a swimming pool in a cell.

Those actions in prisons are part of nearly 50,000 raids launched in the context of the internal armed conflict decreed in the country to curb gangs associated with organized crime.

According to the latest report from the Executive, from January 9 to 27, 5,284 explosives, 1,383 firearms, 1,656 bladed weapons and 69,346 rounds of ammunition were seized.
