Panamanian teachers pay tribute to Cuba’s national hero

Panama, Jan 29 (Prensa Latina) The National Education Workers Union (SITEN) of the University of Panama paid tribute to Cuban independence hero José Martí on his 171st birthday on Sunday.

During the ceremony, they laid a wreath at the monument that remembers the most universal Cuban at the Faculty of Economics, an artwork by Cuban ceramist and sculptor José Rodríguez Fuster.

In the evening, with the presence of the Chargé d’Affaires of the Cuban Embassy in Panama, Leticia Garbey, and Nicaraguan Ambassador Consuelo Vidal, several speakers highlighted the relevance of the Apostle’s thought for the current emancipation struggles.

In her speech, Garbey pointed out that 65 years after the Cuban Revolution, the generation of continuity struggles to build socialism, consistent with Marti’s ideology and legacy.

The force of that thought, its independence, anti-colonialism and anti-imperialism are weapons that show the daily resistance of the people against the blockade imposed by the United States, lies and all forms of aggression and media warfare, she remarked.

The Cuban diplomat explained that Martí’s imprint will remain for history and his figure will transcend as the great moral leader he was, a defender of love for the homeland, attachment to the poor of the earth, faith in human improvement and in the usefulness of virtue.
