In statements to the Al Jazeera television network, Barghouti criticized a meeting held last night in Jerusalem, aimed at demanding the Jewish recolonization of the Gaza Strip. “The politicians who attended the conference did not show any respect for international law, not even at a time when Israel is under the scrutiny of the International Court of Justice,” he stressed, and warned that “these people are doing all this because the international community remains silent.”

Barghouti also highlighted that numerous far-right Israeli ministers and legislators attended the meeting. “This is not a joke (…) These are the people who are making politics in Israel and were calling for an ethnic cleansing of Gaza,” he said.

He also questioned calls for voluntary migration of the Palestinian population, which he considered a hoax. “What kind of voluntary migration can it be when they bombard people 24 hours a day and force them to go from north to south, from center to south?” he asked, referring to the Israeli Army’s military campaign against the enclave.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates also condemned in harsh terms the meeting, in which 11 ministers and 15 legislators participated, among whom were the Ministers of Finance, Bezalel Smotrich, and of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, known for their far-right and extremists positions.
