On his X account, the head of Cuban diplomacy recalled that January 29 marks a decade since the signing of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, during the 2nd CELAC Summit in Havana.

The organization secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Roberto Morales, highlighted on the same social network that the boost given by the leader of the Revolution, Army General Raul Castro, was fundamental in this historic event.

The Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace was signed by the heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), at the end of the Summit held on January 28-29, 2014, in Havana, Cuba.

With this document, all 33 countries of the integration mechanism assumed a permanent commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes, with the aim of banishing the use or threat of force in the region.

CELAC itself, established on February 23, 2010, is governed by the principles of dialogue and political agreement, as an articulating mechanism to work on the basis of consensus and the defense of peace.

The Proclamation has been considered one of the most advanced deals in regional politics, which makes it a solid starting point to build a culture of peace to confront hegemonic policies and aggression jointly.

It is a tool for conflict resolution and to defend the sovereignty of our peoples against interventionism.

It is also a legacy for future generations, as it contains the historic will to identify the region as peoples of peace, moving towards common objectives, with the premise of unity in diversity.
